What’s the purpose of school?

Too often, our answer sounds like: “To prepare students for the next test. The next grade. The next benchmark.”

But what about life?

What about preparing students to collaborate, manage their time, handle failure, communicate clearly, and think critically? What about financial literacy, civic responsibility, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving?

Our students don’t just need facts—they need tools. Yet our system still prioritizes rote memorization over real-world readiness. Imagine schools where students learn how to budget, apply for jobs, participate in community service, or build something meaningful from scratch.

Imagine classrooms where passion projects count, internships are encouraged, and success looks different for every student.

If we want our graduates to thrive beyond the classroom, then the classroom must reflect the world they’re entering.

It’s time to stop schooling for the sake of school—and start educating for the sake of life.
